First Lithonia Seventh day Adventist Church... is a part of a worldwide missionary denomination numbering over 11 million members. The Church identifies itself with the THREE ANGELS MESSAGES as outlined in Revelation 14: 6-12. From a modest beginning in 1844, the Seventh -day Adventist Church has grown to its present global status with a presence on every continent. The church is organized into eight Divisions encompassing the entire globe. Each Division is subsequently divided into Unions, which in turn is separated into Conferences. In addition to our worldwide houses of worship, the Seventh-day Adventist Church runs an international network of hospitals, schools (Primary through Graduate), publishing houses, and broadcast facilities (radio and television). The church also sponsors an international relief organization called ADRA.
First Lithonia S.D.A. Church started in the home of one of its families. Not long after its humble beginning, the church was boosted by a dynamic evangelistic crusade in 1988 conducted by Pastor Oliver McKinney. The three-week evangelistic crusade sponsored by the Decatur and Covington Seventh-day Adventist Churches was lead out by Pastor Oliver McKinney, Pastor Earl W. Moore and Pastor Carl Nesmith.
Pastor Carl Nesmith became the first pastor of the new congregation. After numerous temporary meeting places, its current location, 3533 Ragsdale Road ,Lithonia, Georgia became home to the First Lithonia congregation. After the crusade, First Lithonia gave birth as the 89th congregation of the South Atlantic Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. From a modest beginning of a few persons, First Lithonia has grown into a thriving, spirited congregation of more that 300 members representing some 125 families.
Over the years, First Lithonia members are known as the church that ''feeds the community", not just spiritually but by instituting programs during their inception that fed some 2,500 individuals monthly.
The church has its own school, the Lithonia Adventist Academy (LAA) which has built a reputation for academic excellence and spiritual development, giving their students the reputation of being known not only for their academic excellence, but also for their spiritual commitment.
Now under the leadership of D.M. Jones, Senior Pastor, we look back on the road the Lord has led us and look forward to reviving the hope and renewing the vision that has brought us to this juncture in our history as we continue our mission to...
“spread the good news of Christ and His soon return to our members and community, by ministering to their mental, physical, spiritual and emotional needs.”
